  1. Problem:
Calls to 712‑432‑3900 Incur Charges to Callers Despite Their Unlimited Calling Plans

Since late October 2016, CLA members with unlimited calling plans with T-Mobile®, MetroPCS®, and some other wireless phone service providers have reported that:

    1. Their calls to CLA’s phone line 712‑432‑3900 are intercepted by their wireless phone service providers before the greeting from NoCostConference.com.

    2. Then a recorded message states that the call is outside the caller’s plan and if they remain on the call, they will be charged for it by the minute.

    Solution:
Affected CLA members with unlimited calling service plans can instead call an alternate phone number provided by NoCostConference.com, 712‑432‑3924. Using this alternate number should put you through to the CLA phone line without interception or charge by your wireless provider. From that point on, the access code and commands remain the same as usual.

According to NoCostConference.com, this solution is temporary. It will work until wireless phone service providers begin to treat the alternate number as outside unlimited calling plans and start charging for it.

If your call to this alternate number is intercepted by a statement that you will be charged by your wireless provider for staying on the line, please contact NoCostConference.com. (See instructions below.) Let them know and request that they issue a different alternate number so that you can avoid further charges.

NoCostConference.com has also provided the following information and suggested the following action be taken by those customers with complaints about these charges:

“Currently T-Mobile and Metro PCS are threatening to charge you 1 cent per minute for calling into your conference call service or are flatly blocking your call. Presumably you signed up for an unlimited plan and are now finding that plan is not “unlimited”. We are going through our legal channels to address it from the conference call provider. It would help ending this illegal practice if you would file a complaint with your [phone] carrier and with the FCC or by calling 1‑888‑CALL-FCC (1‑888‑225‑5322).

Please include in your complaint these activities that are illegal if they apply to you:

    • Interrupting your call completion and inserting their own unsolicited interactive voice response message
    • Not completing your call
    • Not providing the agreed upon “unlimited” package

Please take the time to file the complaint and hopefully these carriers will stop their illegal activity. No Cost Conference, Inc does not benefit from this ‘extra’ charge in any way. It is completely arbitrary and only serves to increase the profits at these already profitable companies. We are working with our lawyers through the FCC and our partners to stop this.

If you were considering changing phone providers this might be an excellent time.

T-Mobile clients can dial 712‑432‑3920 and all others can dial the regular number and reach the same conference id [access code]. This number doesn’t appear to be blocked by T-Mobile.

  2. Problem:
Touch Tones Are Not Recognized on 712‑432‑0385

Some CLA members are having trouble getting their phones’ touch tones recognized by CLA’s phone line 712‑432‑0385, with automated system provided by FreeConferenceCall.com®. According to FreeConferenceCall.com, this problem is due to a technical glitch on their end.

    Solution:

    1. Call the alternate phone number provided by FreeConferenceCall.com, 518‑333‑1520.

    2. Enter the original 712‑432‑0385 phone number after the prompt.

    3. Enter the usual access code after the next prompt.

    4. Enter “1” if the system repeats the desired access code and “2” if you need to correct the access code.

If you have entered the correct access code, but the code a) isn’t recognized correctly by the system or b) is recognized by it, but the system does not connect you to the meeting or session after you press “1”, that means the alternative number is not recognizing your touch tones. In that case, please contact FreeConferenceCall.com (see instructions below) to report that the system glitch is occurring on the alternate phone number as well as on the original number.
