Graphic Representations Committee (GRS)
2024 Contest Winners
During the CLA Convention near Chicago in July 2024, members voted for the top three visual
definitions of the word clutter. Out of six submissions, these three received the most votes:
First place: Entry #4 by Daniel H with 25 votes
Second place: Entry #5 by Daniel H with 19 votes
Third place: Entry #3 by Mafa E with 17 votes
Many thanks to all the participants and voters for making this happen. Winners will be contacted
by email with information on how to redeem their prizes.
“Clutter” may mean different things to different people, but we all have a common goal: getting
rid of it. Some meanings reflected by contest entries were: burden, excess, electronics,
suitcases, sewing supplies, art supplies, boxes, cleaning supplies, small appliances, handbags,
clothes, dishes, sink, laundry, loaded tables, crowded surfaces, misplaced items, multiple
choices, indecisiveness, and so on.
We encourage CLA members interested in using their creative skills to help us develop visual
representations for other words that are difficult to translate into different languages. You can
join us at the GRS every second Monday of the month at 6 PM ET via Zoom. Meeting ID: 853
