Officer Guidelines

Among other things, the Clutterers Anonymous℠ (CLA)℠ Fellowship is based on rotation of leadership, which is honored by the CLA WSO corporation when possible. Those nominated as Clutterers Anonymous World Service Organization, Inc. (CLA WSO) officers shall:

  • Be committed to working the 12 Steps of CLA℠, preferably with a sponsor
  • Have a clear understanding of the CLA 12 Traditions and the A.A.® 12 Concepts of Service
  • Be in the Fellowship for at least three years, having regularly attended recovery meetings for at least one year, having given service for at least six months at the local level
  • Be willing to serve on or work with committees to accomplish specific tasks or projects
  • Be willing to be a team player
  • Be willing to devote time and energy to the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Have a working computer at home and the ability to communicate via the Internet
  • Have demonstrated leadership in service work at the local level

Once elected, officers are expected to attend all telephone/Zoom business meetings of Clutterers Anonymous World Service Organization, Inc. (CLA WSO) and the Executive Committee.


Officers, Requirements, and Duties

All terms are one year unless otherwise noted.

Chairperson

Requirements
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least one year.
Duties
Presides over CLA WSO and Executive Committee business meetings and maintains order, using Robert’s Rules of Order. Establishes all CLA WSO and Executive Committee agendas in collaboration with the recording secretary. He or she oversees all CLA WSO committees and may appoint special ad hoc committees.

Vice Chairperson

Requirements
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least one year.
Duties
Assists the chairperson whenever needed and serves in the absence of the chairperson. Makes recordings of CLA WSO meetings. He or she may attend all committee meetings.

Treasurer

Two-year term
Requirements
Clarity in his or her personal money issues. The treasurer shall have experience and some demonstrated expertise in the handling of, and accountability for, money and assets. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least six months.
Duties
Maintains bank accounts for CLA WSO funds. He or she maintains financial records, files taxes, and makes reports at CLA WSO and Finance Committee meetings, as well as securing and publishing an audit of financial records before a newly-elected treasurer assumes the responsibilities.

Assistant Treasurer

Requirements
Clarity in his or her personal money issues. The assistant treasurer shall have experience and some demonstrated expertise in the handling of, and accountability for, money and assets. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least six months.
Duties
Works with the treasurer to maintain bank accounts for CLA WSO fund, maintain financial records, file taxes, and make reports at CLA WSO and Finance Committee meetings, as well as securing and publishing an audit of financial records before a newly-elected treasurer assumes the responsibilities.

Recording Secretary

Requirements
Excellent writing skills and the ability to transmit minutes to multiple email addresses. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least six months.
Duties
Writes minutes of all CLA WSO meetings and distributes them by email. If absent, he or she is responsible for finding a substitute.

Web Mail Correspondent

Requirements
Excellent writing skills, knowledge of 12-Step program, and enthusiasm for carrying the message. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least six months.
Duties
Replies to inquiries sent via email and maintains careful records. He or she may consult with other officers where necessary prior to sending replies.

Voice Mail Correspondent

Requirements
Excellent writing skills, knowledge of 12-Step program, and enthusiasm for carrying the message. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least six months.
Duties
Responds to messages left on the CLA WSO voice mail, maintains careful records, and reports the results. He or she may consult with other officers where necessary prior to replying.

Public Information Officer –  Office discontinued

A motion to change Public Information from an Officer position to a Committee was voted on and approved at the June 26, 2021 CLA WSO meeting. Though the motion was not made as a motion to change the Bylaws, it is anticipated that it will be approved as part of the bylaws update currently in progress (3/26/22).

Corresponding Secretary

Requirements
Ability to pick up mail weekly from the Post Office near LAX Airport. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least six months.
Duties
Collects mail from the Post Office and obtains orders placed through the CLA website; maintains and sends correspondence, literature, and other items. He or she forwards money received to the treasurer or deposits it into the CLA WSO bank account and informs the treasurer of the details.

Archivist

Requirements
Ability to organize and maintain large database of documents online. Must have attended CLA WSO meetings for at least six months.
Duties
Maintains copies of certain CLA WSO documents in a central location online.
